There is a particular kind of room that has everything it needs and still feels like something is missing. Usually it is a surface that has nothing on it, or something on it that isn’t quite right. A good vase solves this in a way that is hard to articulate until you see it working. It adds height, weight, a point of interest. It gives a shelf or a console table a reason to exist. What we look for is a shape that holds its own whether there are flowers in it or not, a material that feels considered rather than decorative for the sake of it, and a scale that fits how people actually style their homes rather than how they look in magazine shoots.
