The side table is one of those pieces that nobody thinks about until they don’t have one. Then suddenly there’s a coffee cup balanced on an armrest and a phone charger trailing across the floor and a stack of books that has somehow become a permanent fixture on the carpet. We’ve thought about this a lot. A good side table does its job without making a fuss. It holds what needs holding, fits the space it’s been given, and doesn’t look like it wandered in from a different room entirely. What we looked for here was proportion first. A table that’s the wrong height or the wrong scale is almost worse than no table at all. We also wanted pieces that had some character without demanding attention, the kind that feel like they were always there. Marble, wood, cane, metal. Different materials for different rooms. All of them chosen because they work hard and look easy doing it.
